The Scheme is run by trading standards officers to help consumers avoid rip offs and cowboys.
How do traders get on the scheme?
At trading standards, we have access to a database of traders and any complaints made against them . We can use this database to filter out any rogue and problem traders and only invite traders to apply that are committed to fair and honest trading.
Star Ratings
We do not approve traders, our customers do.
You can see for yourself how other customers have rated the traders by looking at the number of stars they’ve been awarded 1 star being poor and 5 stars excellent. As a condition of scheme membership, each trader is required to provide all their customers with a feedback form.
Does this mean I will never have a problem with a trader member?
No. But, if you do have a problem with a member trader, they have to deal with the complaints fairly. If the problem can’t be resolved then trading standards will try to help in reaching a solution.
Does the Scheme guarantee the quality of the work?
Scheme members agree to comply with the spirit and the letter of the law. However, we cannot guarantee the quality of their work.
Do our members offer the lowest price?
No. We always advise customers to get a least 3 quotes. Remember that the cheapest quote is not necessarily the best one. Trader members should let you know before work is started how much the work will cost. Also, if you change your mind after the trader has given the quote or if after work has started you ask for additional work to be carried out, you should ask for a revised price from your trader as it may cost you more.
