Development and Air Quality Supplementary Planning Document

In order to reduce emissions and better manage the air quality impact of all new development, the council has prepared an updated Development and Air Quality Supplementary Planning Document (SPD). Following a period of public consultation, the SPD was adopted by the Council in April 2021 and replaces the former version of the SPD prepared in 2007.

The SPD has been prepared in accordance with recent guidance from the Institute of Air Quality Management and satisfies the requirement set in national planning policy.

It aims to better manage the air quality impact of all proposed developments through directing development to sustainable locations with easy access to public transport and local services; the application of good design and sustainability principles, and where necessary the implementation of specific and appropriate mitigation measures either on-site or close by.
