Changes to library opening times

Opening hours at Wigan Libraries have now changed, from Monday 21st August 2017.

This has come as a result of the public consultation we undertook between 14th November 2016 and 5th February 2017 which has helped to shape the new library plan, 'Transforming Our Libraries 2017-2021'.

Feedback from the consultation showed that people valued Saturday opening hours and that being able to access libraries over a number of days was important. By taking an innovative approach to meeting the budget savings, we have simplified our model.

As a result, ‘local’ and ‘express’ libraries will be replaced with ‘community libraries'. These will be open for 30 hours per week, across six days (Mondays - Saturdays, where local conditions permit).

The ‘central’ libraries at Leigh and Wigan will be open for 45 hours per week.

The Museum of Wigan Life and Archives and Local Studies at Leigh will also be adopting the same opening hours as community libraries.
