Hosting a Jubilee event

We're encouraging residents to come together and host events and activities organised with your families, communities, neighbours, and friends. This may include:

  • Organising a Big Jubilee Lunch street party with your neighbours
  • Organising a Jubilee walk or trail around a park
  • Planting a tree or flowers
  • Displaying your own family and friends' photos commemorating events from the last 70 years
  • Creating a window display
  • Re-creating the Platinum Jubilee Pageant emblem in your community (don’t forget to get a photo of it from an elevated position!)
  • Creating a time capsule and asking people to submit items that represent the last seven decades
  • Creating a short film with your local community about some of their most memorable moments from the last 70 years (you don’t need any special equipment - this can be done on your phone!)
  • Set up a relay run - find 70 people willing to take part and devise a scenic route through your town or community.

However you choose to get involved, don’t forget to tag us @wigancouncil on Twitter (external link), Facebook (external link) and Instagram (external link), and we will share our favourites.

Host an event at a council park or greenspace

If you would like to host a Jubilee event at a Wigan Council park or greenspace, you will need to contact our Land Management team who can advise you on site availability and event requirements.

Street parties

Communities from across the UK are invited to come together for The Big Jubilee Lunch, as part of the official celebrations for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Celebrate this once in a lifetime event by hosting a get together for your local community. Whether it’s sharing a cuppa with a neighbour on the doorstep or a bigger bash in the street, we are here to help you celebrate! Bring back the great British street party tradition and make some very special memories by joining together with your neighbours over this momentous weekend.

Whilst the national event will be taking place on Sunday 5th June, we encourage residents to make the most of the weekend and plan your Big Jubilee Lunch from Thursday 2nd June.

Further information on road closures can be found on our Roadworks Bulletin webpage.

How to apply to host a street party

If you would like to organise your own Big Lunch, you will need to apply to host a street party by completing our street party application form.

The first 70 street party applicants will receive a free Platinum Jubilee Party Pack courtesy of Wigan Council to dress your street and support you in your celebrations!

Our Streetworks Team will be in touch to offer guidance on your street party and advise on any associated road closures.

The deadline for Jubilee street party applications is Friday 6th May 2022.

Wigan Council have removed the requirement to have public liability insurance for street parties for the Platinum Jubilee occasion. However, if you include bouncy castles, barbecues, or other activities that could pose a potential risk of injury to attendees, you may need to consider getting public liability insurance for your event.
