Consultation on admission arrangements 2019-20 for schools

Consultation on admission arrangements 2019-2020

Admission arrangements include the admission number and oversubscription criteria which are used to decide on the allocation of school places.

There are proposed changes to the admission arrangements for the following Wigan schools for admission to Reception and Year 7 in September 2019.

Primary Schools

Holy Family RC Primary School, New Springs, Wigan
Ince CE Primary School
  • Clarification of Criterion 3 and Criterion From parent to parent /carer as the school feel it is the child's attendance at church that is important and not who takes them to church.
  • Amendment to Criterion 5 - Children who have brothers / sisters already attending Ince CE Primary School and who will still be on roll at the time of admission.

School reason for change:

St John's CE Primary School, Wigan
  • Removal of Criterion 5.

School reason for change:

St Stephen's CE Primary School, Astley
  • Criterion 3 has now been promoted to Criterion 2: Children with brothers and sisters in school at the date of the child's admission.

School reason for change:

  • St. Stephen’s endeavours to support family life and the well-being of families in our community. The proposed changes to the admissions policy, if implemented, would reduce pressure on those families whose children attend St. Stephen’s by removing the need for siblings to attend different schools. We also understand that families may worship in a Christian Church outside parish boundaries.

Secondary Schools

Golborne High School
  • Amendment to Criterion 2, Children with brothers or sisters who will be attending the school at the time of admission or who have attended the school since 1st September 2012.
  • The inclusion of Criterion 3, Children who attend one of the following associated primary schools:  Golborne All Saints, Golborne Community Primary, Golborne St Thomas, Lowton J&I, Lowton St Catherine's, Lowton St Luke's, Lowton St Mary's CE and Lowton West Primary.
  • Removal of previous Criterion 4, Children living in Abram.

School Reason for change:

  • The governing body has reviewed the admission arrangements in the light of the school being oversubscribed for the last 4 years. This has resulted in problems for parents of pupils attending our associated primary schools obtaining a place if they do not have a sibling currently attending our school. The proposed admission arrangements address this by extending the sibling attendance criteria by 2 years after a sibling has left and by adding an additional criteria for  pupils attending our associated primary schools
