Baby naming or family welcoming ceremony

Once you have chosen your perfect venue, you will need to contact us to arrange your family welcoming/baby naming ceremony.

We will then send you details of the ceremony and what it will include.

What will the ceremony include?

Your ceremony will normally contain some, or all, of the following:

  • Celebrate the birth and welcome your child into the family and wider community
  • Announce the names that you have chosen and, perhaps, explain the reasons behind the choice
  • Make promises of commitment to nurture and support your child into adult life
  • Choose other adults prepared to promise a special supportive relationship to your child

Family welcoming ceremonies are not just for babies.

Children of any age can have a ceremony, it can be used to celebrate adoptive and/or step children into your family and to announce the new relationship. You can, if you wish, include your other children as well as your new child. An additional £10 will be charged per additional child.

Any parent can arrange a family welcoming ceremony whether married or not.

Choosing a venue

You can have a ceremony at one of our offices or approved venues or any public venue within the Wigan and Leigh area.

Registrars fees

A non-refundable £40.00 booking fee is payable at the time of booking the ceremony (this is in addition to the ceremony fee).

All fees include a commemorative certificate - extra certificates are £12 each.

Ceremonies held from 4pm onwards at any venue incur an additional fee of £60.
