Week 11 - 29th June 2020

To help support the residents of the Wigan Borough with staying at home, we have put together our top five activities to do each week to make the most of your time and most importantly to have fun while staying safe at home.

Monday - Where did all the Animals Go Project

Established in 1989, Engage is the lead advocacy and training network for gallery education. They believe that regardless of location or social circumstances, everyone should have access to the visual arts. From Monday 29th June - Sunday 5th July, Engage are running the Where did all the Animals Go Project, where you draw your favourite wild animal in biro. Organised by artist Jane Lee McCracken, the project aims to raise awareness of the beauty of wildlife and the artist’s preferred medium.

Tuesday - Learn authentic Italian recipes

Cooking activities

If you are looking to make homemade Italian dishes, YouTube channel Pasta Grannies has everything from a classic lasagne to ravioli and tortellini. The channel has filmed real Italian grannies making delicious and traditional handmade pasta, and they even have videos on how to make soups, breads, rice dishes and more. This is a great opportunity to learn new skills and share the love of food with your family.

Wednesday - NASA at home

NASA is a US government agency responsible for science and technology related to air and space. They have put together some resources so you can bring the universe into your home. This includes e-books, activities for kids and the family, be a scientist challenges, virtual tours, apps, podcasts and videos.

Thursday - Get healthier with Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles

Fitness and workouts

Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles YouTube channel has lots of videos to help you keep active and healthy. There are a variety of workouts from their instructors such as yoga and Les Mills GRIT, healthy meal ideas, and handy tips to help boost your mental wellbeing with their relaxation videos.

Friday - Stream a Broadway musical

Starting on Friday 3rd July, Disney + will be streaming a recording of the original Broadway musical Hamilton. The musical tells the story of founding father Alexander Hamilton and his rise and fall from power. The original musical won 11 Tony Awards and you can sing along to some fantastic songs, so whether you are a theatre fan or are looking to experience something new, this is a great activity for a Friday night at home.
