Put your dancing shoes on
There’s no age limit to having fun at a new night in Wigan which hopes to connect people to their community.
Organised by Wigan Council, in partnership with Embrace, Driven and The Carers Centre, a new social event will be held for the first time on 24th April at The Bowling Green in Wigan which aims to reduce social isolation.
It’s aimed at residents aged 50 and over who want to meet new people and enjoy a party along with music, food and dancing.
Tickets are £3 and the evening includes hotpot and Northern Soul entertainment.
Jo Willmott, assistant director for provider management and market development at the council, said: “We like to do things differently in Wigan and this is a great opportunity for people to socialise and meet new friends. Our whole approach is to find out what our residents want and what makes them happy. You’re never too old to enjoy yourself!”
Lynne Hamnett, lead officer for Embrace, said: “Our Lets Connect project is focussed on reducing social isolation for adults across the borough, and supporting them to access their community and make new friends. We are proud to be part of Our Generation, and believe it’s an exciting and unique opportunity for our older beneficiaries to meet new people in a safe space’.
Pauline Gregson, chief officer at Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre, said: ‘Too many carers are isolated, with little or no social life, this is a great opportunity for carers to make new friends and re-connect with old ones.”
Tickets can be purchased from The Carers Centre, Embrace or The Bowling Green or can be bought on the night.
