Wigan Borough’s gardens will be showcased in the second borough-wide annual gardening competition.
Applications for the In Bloom garden competition are now open with three titles up for grabs including; ‘Best Individual Garden’, ‘Best Communal Garden’ and ‘Best Junior Garden.’
In previous years the competition has just been for housing tenants but it was opened up to all residents in 2017 to showcase the variety of gardens across the borough in line with The Deal.
Green-fingered residents who have a garden, allotment plot or neighbourhood to be proud of are being encouraged to enter.
Councillor Chris Ready, cabinet member for communities, said: “I’m really looking forward to seeing the entries as last year there were so many brilliant displays.
“It’s clear that many residents take a lot of pride in their garden or allotment so we want to spread the word further this year and encourage more people to enter.
“As part of line The Deal, we want to work with communities and reward their achievements, so let’s come together and make Wigan Borough a beautiful place this summer.”
The closing date for entries is 2nd July and judging will start on 16th July for one week. Residents can also nominate a neighbour or friend with their permission.
The lucky winners will receive invitations over the summer period to the October awards ceremony.
Last year, the borough triumphed at the national In Bloom awards after receiving Silver Gilt and being recognised as ‘Best in Category.’
