Rough sleepers

Cold weather provision

When temperatures drop, those who are homeless and sleeping rough are at risk of serious illness or even death. To prevent this happening, Wigan Council in partnership with Riverside Care and Support and The Brick, arrange cold weather accommodation.

If you know of or spot someone sleeping rough during cold and icy conditions, you can telephone the Housing Options Advice Centre on 01942 489005 who will try to help anyone who is at risk.

No second night out

As well as the cold weather provision in the borough, Wigan Council is a partner in the 'No Second Night Out' initiative which operates across Greater Manchester.

Anyone who finds themselves in difficulty and ends up sleeping rough for one night should be prevented from doing so again.

Staff at Wigan Council and The Brick can refer those who need it to accommodation provided for 'No Second Night Out' by Riverside Care and Support.

If you come across anyone sleeping rough please contact the teams and they will do what they can to get that person off the streets:
