Explore greenspaces

A fun, easy and free way to get active is on foot - and there are so many beautiful walks and greenspaces to enjoy across the borough.

A short walk is a great way to build exercise into your day and can be done on your own or with the family. Not only does it get your body moving but can help to relax your mind.

Going for a brisk walk regularly reduces your chance of getting diabetes, dementia, heart disease, strokes and some cancers. By helping you to be fit and healthy, it also reduces your chance of dying early by up to 30%.

To reap the benefits of walking, here are some tips:

  • Walk briskly
  • Wear comfortable clothing and supportive shoes or trainers
  • Take a water and a healthy snack for longer walks
  • Aim for 150 minutes a week if possible
  • Take poo bags if walking your dog!

And you don’t need to travel far and wide to find lovely green space, we’ve mapped 10 of the best walking routes in the borough to get you started.
