Choose to Challenge

It’s time to #BreakTheMould on gender stereotypes within the workplace.

This International Women’s Day, we #ChooseToChallenge gender stereotypes.

We want to:

  • Raise awareness of the issue of gender stereotypes in the work-place and encourage people to take action.
  • Create a platform that shows our communities are capable of being anything they want to be, regardless of their age or gender.
  • Inspire schools, colleges and other organisations to engage with the campaign to help address gender inequality issues.

Act now!

Research shows that by age 7, girls stop believing that they can be anything they want to be. We want to encourage our local communities to join the conversation; and bring down the boundaries and limitations that gender inequality puts up. We need to keep our dreams alive.

Join our efforts and be a part of the conversation!

Sign up to the pledge to take action against the discrimination facing women and girls in the workplace.

Get Involved!

We want to encourage you to be a part of our campaign. We’ve highlighted five ‘Dream trees’ across the Borough, you can find your local dream tree on our Dream Tree Map!

We want you to attach your own future hopes and dreams on these trees, in whichever way you like. Whether you simply want to make a wish at your local tree, make and attach your own dream catcher, or snap a picture with your tree and sign our pledge.

You can also come along to our panel, taking place live on Friday 12th March and listen to some local leading ladies in business, sports, health and Youth Parliament, who will share their experiences. Book tickets for the debate (external link).

#BreakTheMould commitment

We simply can’t have girls growing up in a world, where they think that only men can make the big decisions and make it big in leadership roles. Women make up just over half of our population here in Wigan Borough. Think of all those brilliant minds, ideas and dreams.

For us to change the way that future generations think and act, we need to change the way we think and act. It’s going to require a behaviour change and we need your commitment to this.

Sign up to pledge and then share the message with your family, friends and colleagues.

Inspiring Future Wiganers

We want to give our future generation the best possible start in life. That means providing equal opportunities to all.

If you have a daughter, sister, friend or relative looking to get into a ‘heavily gendered’ career, we think that these resources could be useful.
