Free school meals

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2

Child eating

If your child is in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 they will automatically receive free school meals.

However, if you are on eligible benefits or your household income is below the governments threshold, your child's school can also get up to £1300 to support your child's education (this is called the Pupil Premium), but you must complete an application form for your school to receive this support.

The Pupil Premium provides funding to support your child’s education including help with the cost of school trips, music fees, teaching assistant staff and after school programs (see individual schools websites).

All other years

All other year groups may also be entitled to free school meals, if you are on eligible benefits or your household income is below the governments threshold.
