5 War memorial
Artist: Sir Giles Gilbert Scott
Location: Off Market Place Date Installed: 1925
War Memorial The War Memorial was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott in 1925. Other examples of his designs include Bankside Power Station, London, which has now been converted to house TATE modern, Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral and the old red telephone boxes. The simple base design leads to an ornate Gothic style cross. The Parish Church features Perpendicular Gothic style windows and if you look up you can see horrific heads and dragons, the gargoyles, which normally carry rainwater away from the walls. These fantastic creatures are amazing. See if you can spot the angels as well.
