Wigan Public Art Trail
Wigan Warp and Weft This trail invites you to explore public art works around the centre of Wigan. It aims to be accessible to all and recommends you use recognised crossing points and take care of traffic and other hazards at all times. As you look at and touch the pieces, please take care not to damage them or hinder other people.
Over the past five years, with the support of City Challenge, European, Local Authority and other funding, a number of public art projects have been included as part of Wigan Council's town centre enhancement programme. This website, the educational pack and an accompanying leaflet has been developed with the assistance of North West Arts Board Regional Arts Lottery Programme. Automata at Opies Museum

Public Art is physically and/or visually accessible to the public. It may be part of a building, be free-standing work, or part of the surroundings. Public art may include temporary works associated with a particular location or event. Public Art is produced by various means. Artists work as individuals, in groups or in collaboration with other design professionals or the community.
The trail can be followed from end to end, or can be joined or left at any point. Go to the map to see the locations of the artworks.

Each artwork is described and there is background information and suggested activities in the education pack for each one. The whole education pack is available for downloading and printing.
