Comments on our performance in 2006-07

The reason for reduction and variation from target is a continuation of the trend following the adverse publicity School Meals has received, followed by the change in menus that although healthier are not as popular. This did affect School meals providers nationally by typically 10 to 15% of meal uptakes. Considerable Promotional and Marketing activity have since been undertaken in order to emphasise the benefits of a healthy meal and utilise the School Meals service. A planned programme of further promotional activity is scheduled from September 2007 and throughout the academic year to impact on meal uptake numbers. We will continue to work with partners within the authority (CYPS, Healthy Schools Team and PCT) to further promote the benefits of good food and nutrition that will provide a more holistic approach to the Healthy Living agenda and school meals in particular.
