The formal establishment of Children and Young People's Services took place on the 3rd April 2006. For most staff this will not mean major change – change will happen over time. However, for some, particularly in terms of a range of support staff and those working for Positive Futures, the change will have a significant impact.
To mark the launch, we hosted a special event on the 3rd April, at Wigan Investment Centre. Due to the size of the new Department it was not possible to invite everyone to come. Instead, we asked each Strategic Manager (Directors for Positive Futures) to identify a group of 10 staff to represent their particular service area. This group was as diverse as possible and gave a much broader group of people the opportunity to hear about the changes. Ged Rowney presented a DVD that captured the Children and Young People's Conference that was held on the 6th March 2006. Gerald Meehan finished the morning sharing information about the Joint Area Review of Wigan. Chief Executive, Joyce Redfearn spoke about the importance of CYPS to the children of Wigan. The highlight of the morning were young people demonstrating their talents musically and through dance.
These are the key dates:
The critical dates are the Self-Assessment and the JAR Fieldwork. We want to ensure that as wide a group of staff as possible have input to the self-assessment.
More information on the Joint Area Reviews.
A few people have said that they are still not clear on the structure of CYPS. I have therefore attached the structure.
The CYPP is finished, and will be published in May 2006. This is now on the Intranet/Internet for you to read.
The WSCB was established on the 3rd April 2006 upon the disestablishment of the ACPC. You can find the 2006/09 Business Plan on the Council Intranet/Internet Website.
