Wigan’s very own dedicated domestic violence court was launched to address the scourge of society that quietly accounts for nearly a fifth of all recorded crime.
It aims to bring more offenders to justice. This year, the court – one of only 25 nationwide – has dealt with nearly 150 cases, with a 70% success rate in terms of guilty pleas and verdicts.
Borough Life readers have the chance to take a unique look at how the court works. On Monday 4th September (9am-12.30pm), visitors can go behind the scenes to see for themselves just what is being done to tackle the perpetrators. Book your place by contacting Julie Ridgway at Wigan Council on 01942 828114.
