Borough Life Summer 2006: Tyldesley and Astley

Astley Map

The members of Tyldesley Astley township forum feel strongly that their area is a good place to live but they are committed to making the most of its attractive green space and the potential of its town centre.

The forum agreed brighter heritage style lighting for the market square to provide a more pleasant environment and produce greater feelings of safety. Lighting improvements will follow on Elliott Street, Shuttle Street and others nearby.

The forum is asking for ideas of footpath routes between green spaces to create attractive circular walks after a series of improvements to walkways around the area. Local children have already helped design way markers for a circular route from Shakerley school.

Tyldesley-Astley forum has agreed work to brighten up play sites around the township. Local residents and users of Astley Street park will be consulted as the designs for improvements to its play area are drawn up during the summer.

Amongst the road safety improvements the forum has put forward is a request to review the traffic flows around Tyldesley town centre and pedestrian safety improvements along busy sections of Manchester Road, Astley near the shops and school.

If you have views on what’s important for Tyldesley Astley, the forum wants to hear from you. Contact Pat Keane on 01942 776158.
