Borough Life Summer 2006: Golborne and Lowton

golborne map

Golborne and Lowton Township Forum has made early progress with the environment and transport themes of its action plan. It’s also made it a key priority to look at facilities in the area designed for younger and older residents.

The forum has supported a memorial stone to commemorate the 10 men killed in the Golborne mining disaster.

It was unveiled on March 19 this year almost exactly 27 years to the day since the tragedy on Kid Glove Road Ð where the old colliery was located.

As part of the Golborne & Lowton Township action plan, puffin crossings have been installed on Lowton Road and at the junction of Crow Wood Road and Slag Lane.

It is hoped that this measure will enable pedestrians to cross these busy main roads safely and to reduce potential accidents.

The forum has regular meetings and these are open to local organisations and residents - if you’re interested in these issues or have ideas of your own about what the forum should be working on, contact Andrew Sharrock on 01942 776164.
