Borough Life Summer 2006: Book early for summer of sport

A Summer-long series of multi-sports camps for 8-14 year olds has been drawn up... but organisers are urging people to book now to avoid missing out.

Football, rugby, basketball, cricket, rounders, parachute games, tennis, athletics and some fantastic multi-skill games are on offer at 10 camps coming soon to a venue near you. The 10 summer camps will be held as follows, from 8.45am-4.15pm each day.

  1. 17th to 21st July, St Mary’s High School, Astley.
  2. 24th to 28th July, Lowton Sports College, Lowton.
  3. 24th to 28th July, Byrchall High School, Ashton.
  4. 31st July to 4th August, Abraham Guest High School, Orrell.
  5. 31st July to 4th August, Hesketh Fletcher High School, Atherton.
  6. 7th to 11th August, Kingsdown High School, Pemberton.
  7. 7th to 11th August, Leigh Cricket Club, Leigh.
  8. 14th to 18th August, Robin Park Indoor Arena, Wigan.
  9. 14th to 18th August, Lowton Sports College, Lowton.
  10. 21st to 25th August, Hindley Leisure Centre.

Over 200 local children enjoyed the recent Easter holiday camps, taking part in sessions, tournaments and competitions led by qualified coaches. For booking details, contact Wigan Leisure & Culture Trust’s sports development team on 01942 404982.


Free cycling courses take youngsters bike to basics

SAFE cycling courses are on offer this summer for children aged 10 and over – and they’re absolutely FREE.

Wigan Council’s road safety team will be out and about across the borough, with sessions at the following locations.

All courses run from 1pm to 3.30pm over three days, with certificates for those who complete the full course. To find out more and book a place, phone the road safety team on 01942 488250.
