Borough Life Summer 2006: A first for Platt Bridge
Another Brick In The Wall? Pupils Joe Longworth and Chloe Blakemore get a sneak preview of their new school courtesy of contractors Conlons.
Platt Bridge Community First – that’s the chosen name for the borough’s first ‘extended school’ which is set to open in the autumn.
The state-of-the-art development off Woodcock Drive will be home to a new primary school, library, children’s and families’ centres, a housing office and community health centre.
First up will be Platt Bridge Community School itself, with the opening of the health centre in summer 2007 marking the £13 million project's completion. This exciting development features:
- Primary school for over 300 pupils.
- SureStart children's centre, with 'wrap-around' nursery, and full day care and baby unit.
- Family support centre, with assessment areas for family and child welfare.
- Dedicated children's library, operated jointly by the school and Wigan Leisure & Culture Trust.
- Public library and information centre.
- Community health centre, including GPs surgeries, pharmacy and a wide variety of health services.
Platt Bridge residents can find out more about this exciting new development at a special open day taking place at Platt Bridge Community Centre on Wednesday 14th June, 3pm-7pm.
