Borough Life Spring 2006: Council to open more hours

People who need to contact the council will soon be able to do so outside normal office hours...and speak to a real person!

Residents have been saying when they want to be able to contact the council, and plans for calls to be answered up until 7pm from Monday to Friday and on Saturday mornings until 1pm are now at an advanced stage.

From the Spring anyone who calls frequently phoned council numbers will automatically be forwarded to specially trained staff who will be on hand to help.

Council chief executive Joyce Redfearn says: “Surveys showed that we are not currently available when many people would like to be able to speak to us, such as early evening and Saturday morning.

“We want to be more accessible to the people we serve, and this is one of a number of ways we intend to achieve that aim.”

Further information about services and numbers provided will be available over the coming months.
