Borough Life Spring 2006: Get a life - Get Lifestyle!

Fancy becoming a member of an exclusive leisure club? It’s got some of the best sports and health facilities our borough has to offer, and acres of open spaces.

But it’s not just about sports and fitness, because this club boasts a string of venues with some of the best entertainment anywhere, an art gallery and a direct line to more than half a million books, DVDs, CDs and video games.

Well here’s the thing…you’re already a member! And soon you’ll be given the chance to change your lifestyle and get a card to prove it. Wigan Leisure & Culture Trust (WLCT) is launching its Lifestyle card to help people make the most of all the facilities it manages on behalf of the council, and it will be available to everyone who lives in our borough and beyond.

Peter Burt, WLCT’s commercial development manager, explains: “We are constantly encouraging people to make the most of what’s on offer, and Lifestyle is a great way of doing this. It will be one card that people can use in libraries and as a membership scheme for all our leisure activities.”

Lifestyle will replace the existing Linc card, which has 33,000 members. It will also include the Freestyle free swimming initiative for people aged 16 and under which has seen more than 20,000 sign up.

Peter says: “At its basic level the Freestyle card will be free to everyone but a membership fee of just £1 will entitle users to a range of discounts on everything from booking sports halls to renting video games.

“We want people in our borough to lead healthier, happier lives and all the evidence shows that an interest in sport, reading and the arts can all help to improve your health.”

Lifestyle is being phased in from April onwards and you can find out more from your local WLCT-run sports or leisure centre. You can also find out more by visiting the WLCT website
