Street furniture such as bench seats, bollards, cycle racks as well as signs and lighting are provided by the council to enhance public areas of our borough and to facilitate a safe and accessible environment. Please contact us if you find that there is a problem with the equipment.
The council conducts routine inspections of all the highways in the borough. During these inspections, we will identify damage to street furniture and equipment. Repairs are carried out on a priority basis according to the nature and severity of the damage, available funds and any threat of potential danger to the public.
Street furniture can be any one of the following items:
- Public seats or benches (except those in parks)
- Street name plates
- Lighting columns or illuminated bollards
- Guard rails and fencing
- Concrete or metal bollards
- Cycle racks
- Litter bins
If you see an item of street furniture which is damaged in any way, please let us know the exact location and the nature of the defect. Street lights can be identified by the number displayed on the column.
If you have witnessed someone causing damage to street furniture, please record date, time and vehicle registration number and report it to us.
