Outdoor Education Centres

Low Bank Ground and Hinning House are Wigan Council’s Outdoor Education Centres in the Lake District.

They provide high quality, enjoyable learning through the outdoors for children and young people. The Centres' work emphasises personal, social and environmental awareness and understanding and is closely related to the “Every Child Matters” agenda.

Qualified and experienced teaching staff offer schools and colleges exciting outdoor courses using dramatic and inspiring natural environments. The Centres also provide training and activity courses for adults and family groups and special interest holidays. Priority is given to Wigan Council schools but there are usually available dates for other groups.

The Centres are available to independent groups on a catered or self- catering basis.

Yew Tree Lodge at Low Bank Ground is a superb base for all kinds of day visits- outdoor activities, field studies, ICT, meetings and seminars. This facility is available for all groups from the local community to further afield.
