Important Information on Chalara fraxinea (Sudden Ash Dieback)

This is affecting Ash trees in various parts of the country. As yet there have been no confirmed cases in Wigan. If you suspect that your Ash trees have Chalara you can contact the Forestry Commission Plant Health department at DEFRA using the links below.

Woodland Strategy

The council has a Woodlands Strategy aimed at protecting and enhancing the borough's wooded areas. Many improvements have been carried out, including tree planting, footpaths and fencing. Wigan is also a member of the Red Rose Forest partnership which is designed to create an urban forest across much of Merseyside and Greater Manchester.

How do I find out if a Woodland is protected?

Contact Environmental Planning by telephone, email or visit the Environmental Services Department during office hours.

Hedgerow

If you intend to remove a hedgerow which is covered by a Hedgerow Protection Order you will need to complete a Hedgerow removal notice form. Please contact us below for further information.
