It includes policies on the full range of planning policy topics, such as green belt and safeguarded land, employment, housing, environment, accessibility, shopping and centres, community facilities and minerals and waste.
The policies are contained within a written statement. The land use allocations and designations are shown on a related proposals map. The written statement, along with other UDP documents, can be viewed below. Both the written statement and the proposals map (external link) can be viewed online.
The plan was adopted on 26 April 2006. During the preparation of the plan a new planning policy system was introduced by the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 (external link). The Unitary Development Plan will remain the local development plan until it is replaced by development plan documents prepared under the terms of the 2004 Act. It is a ‘saved’ plan as part of the Local Development Framework.
On 26 February 2009 the Secretary of State issued a direction under paragraph 1(3) of Schedule 8 to the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004. The effect of this direction was that, from 26 April 2009, all the policies except 3 of the Plan were 'saved' and continue to apply. The 3 policies that were not saved and therefore no longer apply are Policies R1, R1A and EM1F.
