Transport Infrastructure Options Assessment

In order to establish what new transport infrastructure would be required to support the proposed development within the Core Strategy period 2011 – 2026 an assessment of numerous scheme options was undertaken.

The assessment focussed upon transport infrastructure schemes that could mitigate the potential detrimental effects of the development proposed in the Core Strategy on Wigan’s transport network. Existing transport infrastructure scheme proposals associated within the current Unitary Development Plan were also taken into account.

The assessment provided cost estimates of each potential scheme with existing constraints and land ownerships considered in addition to highway design assumptions.

This work was complementary to our transport modelling work within which various combinations of the potential transport infrastructure schemes were modelled in order to assess their effectiveness mitigating the detrimental impact development could have on the transport network.
