An updated housing land availability assessment is required to show how the borough can accommodate at least four-fifths of new housing development on previously developed land, in accordance with the Regional Spatial Strategy.
We commissioned Ove Arup and Partners (external link) in association with Borron Shaw (external link) in January 2007 to assist us in undertaking a Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment.
The study is being undertaken jointly with the Employment Land Review.
Interim Housing Land Availability Assessment
The Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment for Wigan Borough has not yet been completed and the Local Development Framework has not yet reached the stage of preparation where there are specific housing allocations.
In these circumstances it has been judged prudent to publish an Interim Housing Land Availability Assessment. This means that information on the availability of housing land for Wigan Borough is provided in advance of publication of the SHLAA and without awaiting publication of the next Annual Monitoring Report in December 2008. It is anticipated that the Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment will be published in early Spring of 2008.
