This assessment looks beyond the basic flood risk zones identified by the Environment Agency to assess and identify all the different levels of flood risk (high, medium or low) and forms of flooding (‘main river’, ‘critical ordinary watercourse’, surface water, canal, reservoir etc).
As flood risk is very much a cross-boundary issue we commissioned Scott Wilson (external link) in March 2007 to undertake Phase 1 of joint study for all ten Greater Manchester districts.
The phase 1 study was completed in January 2008. Additional work to supplement phase 1 will be commissioned shortly. Phase 2, which is likely to be a study of Wigan Borough as one of four related studies across Greater Manchester will be commissioned later in 2008.
