Site Suggestion Exercise

An initial Site Suggestion Exercise was carried out between 8 May 2007 and 11 June 2007.

The exercise gave people the opportunity to propose sites for development or protection from development. During this period we received 125 submissions covering over 130 sites (.pdf, 49Kb).

Please note that the proposed uses set out in this document are proposals of consultees and stakeholders and not the proposals of Wigan Council. All proposals will be used to inform the stages of preparation for Local Development Framework. Each stage will have its own period of consultation and will provide further opportunity to comment on the issues and options for each site.

The exercise helps shape the broad locations and spatial strategy for development and protection from development in the core strategy and inform the site specific allocations for development and protection from development in the allocations and infrastructure development plan document. To help achieve this we will first assess and consider the sites for and against the requirements and findings of our key localised studies.

An important feature of the new system is the submission of evidence and representations at the earliest stage of preparation. This ensures we can fully consider all the issues facing the borough. Under the new system late submission of evidence and representations places a much greater emphasis on the developer, landowner or objector etc to provide robust evidence to support their case.

If you would like to propose a site please use the site suggestion form (.pdf, 64Kb).

Because of the success of the initial exercise we have decided that the site suggestions will continue and will be ongoing throughout the Local Development Framework process. But please remember, that in the spirit of the new planning system, the sooner you provide information the better.
