Development and Protected Species

There is a range of species protected by national and international legislation recorded in Wigan borough.  Guidance on the level of protection species receive, responsibilities for dealing with them and what the council will require as part of the submission of a planning application is given here.

The Development and Protected Species Supplementary Planning Document includes guidance on when surveys for protected species will be required, such as for proposals to convert barns or demolish buildings. Guidance is also given on when a survey should be carried out and details of the information expected to be included within a survey report.
