AGMA will shortly be commissioning a 'Renewable and Low Carbon Energy' study across the ten districts of Greater Manchester. This study will help us to:
- set broad targets for renewable energy generation in new developments;
- establish existing energy infrastructure across Greater Manchester and map supply, capacity and demand;
- identify opportunities to generate low-carbon and decentralised energy (including cross-boundary linkages) and outline the key constraints;
- establish which types of renewable and low-carbon energy technologies are likely to be most suitable for different areas; providing an understanding of viability and indicative costs of achieving low and zero carbon buildings across Greater Manchester,
- identify and outline the role of Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) and the Community Infrastructure Levy for delivering on/near and off-site energy technologies.
The Greater Manchester wide study will set the context and framework for further local work in the future, where we will identify site-specific opportunities in Wigan to achieve low and zero carbon development.
