Greater Manchester Low Carbon Energy Study

The Association of Greater Manchester Authorities commissioned a 'Renewable and Low Carbon Energy' study to inform Local Development Framework across the ten districts of Greater Manchester. It was completed in January 2010.

In summary the study (external link) outlines:

  • The policy background at national, regional and local level.
  • Broad-level opportunities and constraints for a range of low carbon technologies including solar, wind, biomass, combined heat and power and geothermal.
  • A range of case studies and proposed carbon reduction strategies.
  • A carbon reduction target framework for reducing carbon in new developments across Greater Manchester.
  • Delivery mechanisms and finance options.

Work is still underway to take forward the outcomes of the study.
