The Greater Manchester Joint Minerals Plan contains the strategic policies to guide future mineral development and Areas of Search for mineral extraction and Mineral Safeguarding Areas.

Greater Manchester Joint Minerals Plan

In January 2013, the Greater Manchester authorities received the Final Report on the assessment of the Minerals Plan from the Planning Inspectorate. The Inspector, Mr Andrew Mead, has found the Minerals Plan to be sound. The report is available here Greater Manchester Minerals Plan Website (External link)

The Minerals Plan was formally adopted by Wigan Council on 6th March. 2013. It is also being adopted by each of the other Greater Manchester authorities and this will be completed by 25th April 2013. The Joint Minerals Development Plan (.pdf, 24kb) comes into force on 26th April 2013.

The Minerals Plan will form part of the Local Plan for Wigan Borough and will be used alongside district-specific planning documents for the purpose of determining planning applications.
