In May 2009, the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities (AGMA) commissioned Nathaniel Lichfield and Partners (NLP) to produce a Position Statement on employment land position across the 10 Greater Manchester districts.
The Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) for the north-west, published in September 2008, sets out a series of spatial priorities for development within the region. Policy W3 relates to the supply of employment land and provides sub-regional requirements for the quantitative provision of employment land to 2021.
As advocated by the RSS, the provision of employment land figures by sub-region has required the ten districts and other partners to work together to agree the distribution of land within the sub-region.
The position statement is the outcome of joint-working between local planning authorities within Greater Manchester, and is intended to form an integral part of the evidence base and support for employment policies in district's local development frameworks, as well as making recommendations for a future approach to employment land reviews and subsequent monitoring.
