The Development and Air Quality Supplementary Planning Document will safeguard the environment by encouraging sustainable development that balances and integrates economic, social and environmental benefits.
It applies to all planning applications and provides detailed guidance on how to assess the impacts a development may have on air quality and how these should be addressed or off-set. In order to determine acceptable and unacceptable levels of pollution, development proposals are categorised into one of four bands depending on the likely impact on air quality. This Supplementary Planning Document then sets outs when an Air Quality Assessment will be required and what it should contain.
It also provides guidance on mitigation and compensating measures relating to the significance of the air quality impact.
The Development and Air Quality Supplementary Planning Document is supplementary to clause (a) of Policy EV1B in the Replacement Unitary Development Plan.
