Subsequent inspections require 24 hours notice. Periods of notice do not include weekends and bank holidays and commence at midnight on the day on which notice is given. (In practice telephone requests for inspections are acceptable and if the request is made before 10.00 am the inspection will be carried out the same day. We will also endeavour to carry out inspections the same day if a request is made after 10.00 am, but this cannot be guaranteed). It is important to give sufficient notice so that work which will be covered up - such as foundations - can be properly inspected.
The builder should notify us at the following stages of work when ready for inspection:
- At commencement of work
- At excavation for foundations
- Prior to covering up any hardcore or damp proof membrane
- Prior to covering drain
- Prior to plastering or encasing walls, beams or columns
- On occupation (if prior to completion)
- On final completion
You are recommended to take an interest in and have personal involvement with the work you are having carried out by arranging to meet the builder and Building Control Officer together on site so that any Building Regulation problems can be resolved before the builder leaves the site. When the work is completed please ensure that you notify the Building Control Officer who will then arrange a final inspection of the work.
You may give notice verbally, in person or by telephone. When you do this please quote the council's plan number for the work so that the correct particulars can be obtained easily.
