Working in Social Care

Our aim is to enable people to live as independently as possible in their own home or in their own community, for as long as they wish and are able to do so.

Wigan Council values social work skills and believes we offer a unique contribution to the lives of people, their families and communities.  We believe that we can offer you the opportunity to take the skills you have learnt and support you in putting them into practice.

We have a number of day centres throughout the borough for older people and adults with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, sensory disabilities and mental health problems supported by  support workers and care assistants .

This is in addition to the many services that are provided to people in their own homes by occupational therapists and the Reablement Service

Visit ' Talking Heads (External link) ' to hear (or read) social care workers sharing their experiences.
