We are currently consulting our Tenants on possible changes to the Introductory and Secure Tenancy Agreement. If you are a Wigan and Leigh Housing tenant you will have received information in your quarter 2 rents statement about the proposed changes. We are not completely re-writing the existing Tenancy Agreement but are updating it. The last time this was done was in 1995 so it feels like now is the right time to review the content. If you click on the line below you will see some of the proposed changes and the content of the existing Tenancy Agreement.

For an audio version of the existing tenancy agreement click on the link below. You will need your speakers turned on to hear it and an audio player already installed on your computer.

As Tenant Board Members we are also being consulted on these changes and would really welcome your views, please click on the link below to send us your comments enquiries@walh.co.uk. There are a number of other ways you can contact us and these are shown in the information we have sent to the tenants in the link above – Changes to Tenancy Agreement.

We also held a Consultation Event on Wednesday 29th October 2008 so that tenants from across the Borough could discuss these proposed changes and raise any suggestions they may have. All of the tenants who have attended the Area Forums were invited and have sent in comments if they could not attend. Over 45 tenants attended.

One of the changes which is being proposed is to change the rent collection cycle from paying a week in arrears to paying for the current week. We hope that this change will not have any affect on any of our tenants but if you do have any concerns please contact us on 01942 705040, where trained staff will be available to help.

All of the changes proposed have been supported by the tenants who attended the event and some additional changes have been suggested by tenants as well. However, we are still interested in your views. Before any changes are made your views will be considered by Wigan and Leigh Housing Board and the Council’s Cabinet.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Marjorie Marsden, Tenant Board Member
