Energy Efficiency

Energy Efficiency advice in the Borough is provided by the Greater Manchester Energy Advice Service, which is operated by Manchester City Council.
The following schemes for energy efficiency measures are available NOW!

1. ECO* Affordable Warmth can provide FREE heating and insulation improvements / repairs to properties that are poorly insulated and / or do not have a working central heating system if the householder is in receipt of:

  • Child Tax Credit with an income of £15,860 or less.
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (takes into account household income / pension / savings of £6,000 and the effect your disability has on your ability to work) with either:
    • a child under 16, or under 20 but in full-time education (excluding University); or
    • child tax credit with a disability element; or
    • a disability element; or
    • a pensioner element.
  • Income-based Job Seeker's Allowance (unemployed or work less than 16 hours a week) with either:
    • a child under 16, or under 20 but in full-time education; or
    • child tax credit with a disability element; or
    • a disability element; or
    • a pensioner element.
  • Income Support (lone parent, on maternity / paternity leave, or carer) with either:
    • a child under 16, or under 20 but in full-time education; or
    • child tax credit with a disability element; or
    • a disability element; or
    • a pensioner element.
  • State Pension Credit.
  • Working Tax Credit with an income of £15,860 or less with either:
    • a child under 16, or under 20 but in full-time education; or
    • a disabled worker element or severe disability element; or
    • is aged 60 years or over.

You must own your own home or rent privately in order to qualify for this funding (you will not qualify if you live in a Housing Association or Council property).

2. ECO* Carbon Saving Community Obligation can provide cavity wall, solid wall and loft insulation to all households living in designated areas, regardless of income.

3. Green Deal can provide a loan for energy efficient heating, insulation, lighting, microgeneration (air source / ground source heat pumps, micro CHP, solar thermal / PV), windows and external doors.
