How to apply
First, have a look at the details of the schemes listed below. Some are managed by Wigan & Leigh Housing on behalf of Wigan Council, others are owned and run by independent housing associations. Each scheme has its own individual character, so you can choose what’s right for you. If you would like to get more information before you decide, get in touch with the Support Manager for the schemes you are interested in; they will be happy to tell you more or arrange for you to visit and have a look round. Many schemes also hold social events to which non-residents are welcome.
Register your interest with Wigan & Leigh Housing at the Property Shops in Wigan and Leigh town centres. The staff there will go through the application form with you and can help with any questions you have about how to place a ‘bid’ for a property when one becomes available. Wigan & Leigh Housing are responsible for letting the vacancies in all the Council schemes and make nominations for most of the housing association ones.
If you are interested in a particular housing association scheme, they are usually also happy to take a direct application – the Support Manager will advise you how to do this.
The length of time it takes for a property to become available varies from scheme to scheme. If the scheme you are interested in has a long waiting list, talk to the Property Shop team about other schemes nearby which might suit you.
