Residential and nursing homes in Wigan borough are privately-owned. You can get a list of these, together with inspection reports about them, by visiting the Care Quality Commission website.
If you, or someone you know, think you need residential or nursing home care (even on a short term basis), contact the council's Central Duty Team and ask them to arrange for an assessment of your needs.
The assessment will take into account your personal wishes about the sort of care you need, and helps us to decide whether or not you are eligible to receive care services. We use Department of Health guidance ‘Fair Access to Care Services’ to work out your eligibility.
You may be able to make your own arrangements to go into residential or nursing home care, without an assessment from the council, if you have one or all of the following:
- savings over £23,000
- a property to sell
- a large pension
