Community Alarm Service

  • Anxious about unwanted callers or intruders?
  • Concerned about personal or home safety?
  • Have health or mobility problems?
  • Worried about fire in your home?
  • Worried about the risk of falling?
  • Need additional support?

The community alarm service can help you to live independently in your own home by providing reassurance for you, your family and carers.

All you need is a telephone line and details of people who we can call in an emergency situation.  We will supply you with a base unit and you can choose from either a pendant or a wrist strap.  Once you press the button on the pendant or wrist strap, you will be connected to a response team within a few seconds, who will summon the help you need.

The service is operational within your home and garden up to a range of approx. 50 metres.  It is an easy to use, 24-hour service, and once the button is activated we can get you the help you require even if you are unable to speak.

There are a number of ways you can apply for the service - choose the one which is more appropriate to you:

  • if you have a social worker, ask him or her to make a referral on your behalf;
  • ask a health professional to make a referral on your behalf (e.g. your doctor, district nurse, physiotherapist, etc);
  • if you live in sheltered housing, ask the manager to make a referral on your behalf;
  • if these don't apply to you, contact Starting Point who will make a referral on your behalf.

There may be a charge for this service, depending on your financial circumstances.
