Childminders
Childminders are self-employed carers based in their own homes. They are registered to provide care for children aged 0 – 8 but may also offer before/after school or holiday care to older children.
Day nurseries
Daynurseries provide care and education for pre-school children aged from 6 weeks to 5 years old.
Pre-school/playgroups
Playgroups or pre-schools, provide sessions of play and education to children aged from 2 and a half to 5.
Out of school care and holiday schemes
Out of school care and holiday schemes offer a safe place to play for 4 – 12 year olds during out of school hours.
Crèches
Crèches offer occasional care for over 2 hours a day in permanent or temporary premises in order to help parents to access work, training or one-off events.
