Summary of Support for Children with Complex Needs
Mary Sheridan Centre
Based at Leigh Infirmary, this service is for pre-school children and referrals are made by a doctor or the hospital. The centre provides continuous assessment and therapies to children with disabilities within a nursery environment and offers support to families.
Ladies Lane
A service for children borough-wide, based in Hindley. It provides:-
Short term breaks - the frequency depends on the outcome of the assessment.
Day care - structured activities indoors and outdoors.
Family Network Scheme
The service offers planned short term breaks for children and young people, with a family that has been carefully selected and trained. For more information about the Family Network Scheme, please click here.
Children's Disability Register
This is a confidential list of children and young people with disabilities in the Borough. The list is maintained jointly by Children and Young People's Services, and Ashton, Leigh and Wigan Primary Care Trust. Families receive regular newsletters and information, and are consulted about developments to services.
Activity Schemes
Activity schemes are run for children and young people with severe learning difficulties who live in Wigan Borough area.
