Broadmead is a day centre in Golborne for adults with learning disabilities. It's one of three centres in the borough that offers access to a variety of leisure, educational and developmental activities, both at the centre or from one of six smaller community bases in Golborne, Leigh, Lowton and Abram.
People can choose to attend the centre five days per week, or on selected days to suit their lifestyle. Activities available include:
- developing and maintaining life skills, e.g. domestic skills (cooking, cleaning), numeracy and literacy
- activities in the community, e.g. social activities (bowling, visiting museums, libraries, exercise classes, etc.)
- sensory stimulation
- work experience, e.g. voluntary placements in shops, cafes, etc.
- gardening on the centre's allotment
- and many more
The services we provide are 'person-centred' which means that they are tailored to suit each person's preferences and individual needs. We review the support each person receives at least once a year to make sure that it is continuing to meet their needs.
Also at Broadmead...
- The Garden Cafe, which is open to both users of the day centre and also the general public. There are variety of meals and snacks on offer between 9am and 1pm.
- Transition Service - a service for young adults between the ages of 18 and 25. The service helps them to make a smooth transition from children's to adult learning disability services.
How to access the service
If you (or someone you know) would like to attend one of the council's day centres, a social worker must make a referral on your behalf. If you haven't got a social worker, contact the Central Duty Team and ask for an assessment of your care needs. The assessment helps us to decide whether or not you are eligible to receive services. We use Department of Health guidance 'Fair Access to Care Services' to work out your eligibility.
