Amberswood Day Centre in Hindley is for adults with learning disabilities living within the Wigan town centre, Hindley, Leigh, Atherton and Tyldesley areas. The service offers access to a variety of leisure, educational and developmental activities.
People can choose to attend the centre five days a week or on selected days to suit their lifestyle, the allocation of which is subject to availability and assessment.
The service is tailored to suit individual needs using a variety of tools and methods:
- Person Centred Planning
- Young Friends Together/Transition Service
- Community Connecting
- Individualised assessments
- Voluntary work placements/experience
- Sensory stimulation
- Horticultural programmes
- Travel training
- and many more
Work experience programmes available through Amberswood include:
- Hindley Planted - a gardening project which involves people in the community (eg. local schools) to undertake garden maintenance. We also have a nursery where we cultivate plants for sale to the public.
- Chequers cafe - the cafe is open to the general public and incorporates a training kitchen where we provide training on various tasks.
- Reception desk - an opportunity to develop experience in clerical tasks.
- Floristry - supporting individuals to develop skills in flower arranging.
All of the above programmes will hopefully lead to accreditted skills and work placements in the community.
Young Friends Together is our transition service for individuals between the ages 19 and 25. It supports young people in the transition from children's services and colleges into adult services.
