Do you have the time, commitment and experience of looking after or working with children? Could you offer a stable, nurturing home with a spare bedroom or more than one if you are intending to foster children of different sexes?
There’s no ‘typical foster carer’ and Wigan Council welcomes applications from people who are single, living together, married, divorced or separated, heterosexual or gay.
We usually state a minimum age of 21 but there’s no upper age limit on applicants – you just need to have the experience to provide a secure and stable environment for a child, as well as the energy to keep up with them and a good support network of family and/or friends.
Although there aren’t any particular qualifications needed to apply for fostering, you do need to have the basic skills, ability and commitment to care for children or young people as well as enthusiasm.
